Domaine Pélaquié

A vineyard in the southern Rhone Valley on varied terroirs.

Domaine Pélaquié, located in the southern part of the ‘Côtes-du-Rhône’ produces the full range of wines of the right bank of the Rhône.

The estate stretches on 100 hectares whose the main part is surrounding the family house located in Saint-Victor-La-Coste in the department of Gard.

In the private cellar, Luc Pélaquié and his team nurture and age with passion two ‘grands crus’, Lirac and Tavel but also Cotes-du-Rhone-Villages-Laudun and Cotes-du-Rhone at all. The winery also produces high quality IPG wines, reds and whites. About ten diferent grape varieties are cultivated on the vineyard ; mainly grenache noir, syrah and mourvedre for the reds and grenache blanc, clairette, viognier and so many for the whites.

Luc Pélaquié loves round and unctuous white wines and he knows how to do them brilliantly. He has this extraordinary patience to succeed in a late harvest in October because it is the guarantee of white wines with an intense and fresh nose and long finish. We also produce excellent red and rosé wines. Passionate about our profession, each year we try to create subtle and daring blends.

Pélaquié wines are now famous and appreciated around the world.

Since the 16th century, the Pélaquié family has cultivated vineyards on the place of the current operation.

In 1908, Laudun wines were shipped to Djibouti. The archives keep memories of distant expeditions.

Luc Pélaquié gave new impetus to the company but has not forgotten the legacy. He took over the estate of his grandfather Joseph in 1976. The small family property has become a modern winery through numerous investments in winemaking vat for instance; always looking for quality and the expression of our best terroirs.

In 2008, the company broke away from the wine cooperative of Saint Victor and became independent. Today we are able to manage the whole cycle from the vine farming to the production, from bottling to sales.

From father to son the Pélaquié's have transmitted the preparation secrets. Each generation has lovingly protected this cultural legacy, enriched it with his own discoveries to create beautiful line of wines, well known for white, fresh and elegant.

AOP Laudun

To produce Côtes du rhône Villages Laudun, Red and White, Luc Pélaquié select his harvest on the Saint-Victor-la-Coste vineyard.

Near of  a chapel, rocked by the sound of a hedge of cypress or under the gaze of an old fortified castle, grapes get ripe.

Soils are composed of sand and fossilized sediments, on clavey slopes.

For red wines, we met Grenache, cinsault, Shiraz, Mourvèdre, Carignan, and some black counoise.

For white grapes, we find the Clairette, the viognier with violet and honey flavours. Then there is also the White Grenache and the Marsanne with flower and hazelnut flavours.

All these elements - soils, climate, variety - are Southern Rhone Valley basis but the mistery of blend alchemy that only wine passion, knowledge and know-how can make is known by Domaine Pélaquié team.

AOP Lirac

In the Lirac terroir, Luc Pélaquié has choosen to work by blending.

The vines in Saint-Laurent-des-Arbres have different soils which allow it to create particular wine.Soils include rounded stones which hold back heat given by the sun during the day and give it back in the night. It gives rich red with blackfruit flavours and spicy notes. Sandy skeletal soils make lively, supple and fruity wines.

About grape variety, to Grenache and Cinsault are added the Mourvèdre which have powerful flavours and the Shiraz, very with raspberry, blackcurrant and violet flavours.

AOP Tavel

It is in this place surrounded by garrigue, scented of provencal smell that Luc Pélaquié cultivates the "Tavel" designation, on a calcareous slopes with lauzes. On this dry and stony soil, we choose to plant Grenache and Cinsault.

Grenahce, the basic grape variety of the Southern Côtes-du-Rhône, provides the structure of the wine, giving it its sweetness where Cinsault glides its elegant and fruity aromas. The dryness of the soil and the warmth of the climate amplify the qualities of the grape varieties. All of this give in this place a pale Tavel Rosé with salmon reflections that are illuminated by aromas of spring red fruits.
