For his Lirac appellation wines, Luc Pélaquié has chosen to work with a balance of different grapes.
His vineyards within the township of Saint Laurent
des Arbres grow on different soils, permitting him to create wines with strong character. The soils with their layer of rounded river rock retain the heat of the day's sunshine which then continues to warm the vines during the evening, offer rich red wines with aromas of black fruits and spices; the light-structured sandy soils create wines that are light-flowing, supple and fruity.
As for the varieties of vines, in addition to the smooth grenache and the fruity cinsault, Luc Pélaquié uses the mourvèdre whose powerful bouquets strengthen on aging, and the syrah, a very expressive variety with a rich bouquet hinting of strawberry, cassis, and violet, with a light pepper undertone.
Luc Pélaquié
unites these nuances, coming from their respective soils and varieties, in his recipes that produce top quality Lirac reds and rosés with strong character.
